The past few days have been filled with traveling, working, and connecting with old friends. On Saturday morning, I left Durham, North Carolina to come down to Atlanta, Georgia which is where I currently am.
I’ve been here for a few days now, mostly just working. I’m starting to feel myself get into a routine of traveling just to get to a place where I can work. Granted, the journey is almost over but I want to make the most of what I’m doing. I’m staying with my former colleagues and director from when I worked at MySpace from 2007 to 2009. I’ve always looked up to them and they’ve been mentors to me during my journey as an entrepreneur. When I first got here, they invited a few people who worked with us as well so it was like a reunion! I miss working with these people. We used to literally have Nerf gun wars in the office for at least an hour. And the beautiful thing is that we use to get our work done too. It was my first and best job out of college…because of the people. Most of my coding chops, patterns, and code organization skills were learned from one of the senior developers, Frank Spitzka, who also came Saturday night.
Sunday night I got together with my good friend Johnny Hill just to catch up. Johnny is the person that I’d most likely be traveling with unless I’m solo. He’s like a brother to me and although I’m not sure how accurate it is, he’s said that I’m responsible for pushing him to travel and to pick up photography. That’s debatable but I’m humbled if so.
Monday evening, I linked with some more great friends of mine, Lucy Dazilma and Kirk Brown. Lucy is the same person I mention in my book introduction who’s responsible for me actually finishing my book. Kirk is a solid guy I met at a media event here in Atlanta about seven or eight years ago. Kirk is also part of the amazing people at Ron Clark Academy. Both of these people and Johnny have been steadfast in their friendship to me. I appreciate all of you.
Just before, I saw my big sister Mo! She showed me love as soon as I moved to Atlanta in 2007 and she’s also a dope skater!
Today (Tuesday, Aug 29th), there are a few things on my mind:
- Hurricane Harvey and the current state of Houston and surrounding cities
- My plan to travel west today (which is not happening now)
- What I can do to help
I really want to head through Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana to get to Texas and help out. The only problem is that my life is literally in my car. I cannot afford to have my car compromised in any way (that I can control). I’m thinking I could head north a little but there’s really no rush for me to get back. I think I am going to stay in Atlanta for a few more days and see what happens with the storm.
If anyone reading this is there or knows of a way I can help please do not hesitate to let me know.
